An easy lasagna recipe made in a skillet with bowtie pasta, Italian sausage, tomatoes and three kinds of cheese

  • 8 ounces dry bowtie (farfalle) pasta, uncooked
  • 1 cup part-skim ricotta cheese
  • 1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 12 ounces Italian pork sausage
  • 1/3 cup chopped yellow onion
  • 2 cans (14.5 oz each) or 1 can (28 oz) Hunt's® Diced Tomatoes with Basil, Garlic and Oregano, undrained
  • 1 can (6 oz each) Hunt's® Tomato Paste
  • 1-1/2 cups shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese, divided

Purchase ingredients from Peapod or Amazon

  1. Cook pasta according to package directions, omitting salt. Meanwhile, combine ricotta cheese, Parmesan cheese, water and pepper in small bowl; set aside.
  2. Heat large skillet over medium-high heat. Add sausage and onion; cook 3 to 5 minutes or until sausage is crumbled and onion is tender, stirring occasionally. Drain. Add undrained tomatoes, tomato paste, 3/4 cup mozzarella cheese and cooked pasta to skillet; stir to combine.
  3. Dollop spoonfuls of ricotta mixture on top of pasta mixture. Sprinkle with remaining mozzarella cheese. Reduce heat to low; cover and cook 2 to 3 minutes or until ricotta mixture is hot and mozzarella cheese melts.

This is a great recipe, I've made lasagna for years the traditional way, this recipe is quick and easy, you do the prep work beforehand then when your ready follow the directions and everything comes together. My family loves this and go back for seconds. Can't get enough. If there were ten stars I'd rate this an eleven, so I'll go with five Thanks.

I was really disappointed with this recipe. We followed the directions to the letter, but there is clearly not enough pasta and the 2 cans of tomatoes just make this a soupy mess. The picture does NOT represent the final product. I think there is a mistake on the recipe that Hunt's needs to correct.

Quick, easy, and very good. I used ground beef instead of Italian sausage.

I was so optimistic about this recipe: I loved Hunts Skillet Lasagna of the 70's and couldn't wait to try this "copycat" recipe. It was Nothing like it. Nothing. It needs a package of spaghetti mix,as the tanginess of the tomatoes is overpowering. And that ricotta mixture serves no purpose (it isn't remotely like the topping from the 70's). It's a decent lasagna if you "doctor" it up.

This tastes just like the boxed Hunts Skillet Lasagna from forty years ago. I used to make it when I was first married. I have been trying to duplicate it for years. Thanks so much.
