A coleslaw recipe is freshened up with crisp apple and green onions and tossed with a simple dressing featuring honey and spicy brown mustard

Ingredients
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon Gulden's® Spicy Brown Mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons Pure Wesson® Canola Oil
  • 4 cups tri-color coleslaw mix
  • 1 cup chopped Gala or other red skin apple
  • 2 tablespoons sliced green onions
 
Directions
  1. Stir together honey, vinegar, mustard and salt in large bowl until combined. Whisk in oil until blended. Add all remaining ingredients; toss gently to mix.

This is great! I'm tired of mayo based slaws. I have used this recipe many times. My husband always asks for more.

I have more of a question than review. I was wondering about the mustard. Most honey mustard dressings call for dijon mustard, so i was thinking of using that instead of spicey brown. Would that mess it up or has anyone tried that substitution???

OH my goodness. Just made this on Christmas morning ('14) for dinner later today. It is so good I could eat it for breakfast. I had no idea this would be so good. The mix of apple, slaw, vinegar, honey, mustard and the onions is wonderful. I didn't think it was too sweet at all as some said. But if you are worried about that then I would just add less honey in the beginning. I didn't change anything, nor would I when i make it again. It was so quick and easy to make, which is the kind of recipe I like!

The honey makes it too "honey sweet" and the taste doesn't fascinate my tastebuds enough to want more of it. I ended up adding another TBS of vinegar to give eat a cleaner flavor burst and a hint of sunflower oil to give it a bit of mystery. Still nothing spectacular.

I made this tonight to go with baked chicken for dinner! This slaw is delicious! I ended up putting a Tablespoon of the brown mustard-it was a little too vinegary for my liking. Also, I used 2 apples. My boyfriend loved it too! This would be great at a pot luck or bar b que. SO SO SO SO GOOD! YUMMO!
